Hard Soft Press is an independent publishing imprint devoted to interdisciplinary writing that resists simplification and categorization.

Founded by Nia Burks, the imprint exists in response to a persistent gap in contemporary publishing where work is often required to choose between intellect and sensuality, theory and lived experience, rigor and tenderness.

Hard Soft Press publishes writing that moves between disciplines and work that is thoughtful without becoming sterile, and attempts to be both embodied and precise. Our books are spaces where ideas, bodies, memory, humor, desire, and contradiction can coexist without being forced into resolution.

This imprint is not interested in packaging experience into something palatable. We are interested in preserving depth, texture, contradiction and truth.
